Dry Cough presents as upper airway irritation and allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes. Dry cough is frequently associated with URTI caused by viral rhinosinusitis, common cold and upper airway cough syndrome due to postnasal drip
Dose should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Take as
2-6 years of age – 2.5 ml thrice daily
6-12 years of age – 5 ml thrice daily
> 12 years of age – 10 ml thrice daily or as directed by the physician
Shake well before use. Do not stop therapy on your own. Always consult your doctor if cough is not relieved within 1 week. Extrapyramidal symptoms can occur secondary to Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide administration.
Do not self medicate. In Pregnancy, as there are no adequate studies in human Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, Chlorpheniramine and Phenylephrine Syrup should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
In Nursing Mothers, It is not known whether Dextromethorphan and Phenylephrine Syrup is excreted in human milk. Because this medicine contains Chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine, which can pass into the breast milk and may cause symptoms such as irritability, drowsiness, or respiratory depression in the nursing infant. Always talk to your doctor.
For Geriatric patients, Dextromethorphan Chlorpheniramine Phenylephrine Syrup may cause confusion and over-sedation in the elderly. Elderly patients generally should be started on low doses of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide Chlorpheniramine Syrup and observed closely.
It is a combination of 3 drugs. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.
Take exactly as prescribed by your physician. Dextromethorphan should be used with caution in sedated patients, in the debilitated, and in patients confined to the supine position.
The syrup is contraindicated in patients with known Hypersensitivity to codeine or chlorpheniramine or phenylephrine.
